Recent events around the COVID-19 pandemic – and the reaction of varying state and federal authorities to these events – have been alarming and concerning to everyone. For example, in ESI’s home state of Ohio, a stay at home order was issued on March 23rd, 2020, and remains in effect. Nationally, major sporting events and most gatherings of any kind have been put on hold or cancelled. As of the beginning of April, all but a handful of states had enacted some sort of stay-at-home order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Even those few states with no quarantine in place may soon follow suit. Plans are fluid and are likely to change daily.
We want you to know that ESI is open and positioned to address any issues that may arise among our policyholding credit unions as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. In reaction to what we know at this time, Excess Share Insurance has instituted the following action plan until the end of April, and possibly longer:
All of our field examiners and other ESI employees have been instructed to work from home. The main office will maintain a strong support staff onsite to assist any policyholders with supplies and to answer inquiries, and at least one officer will always be available during working hours for any questions that may arise.
All scheduled onsite field examinations have been postponed or switched to being remote examinations. This is a practice that our auditing staff has been selectively deploying for over three years with no issues. With the continued cooperation of our policyholder credit unions, much of our normal field examination process can be completed this way.
In today’s online banking environment, members have never had easier or faster access to their funds. Regardless, if your members have questions or concerns about the insurance of their accounts by ESI, please reach out to us for assistance using the Contact Us form at the bottom of this page.
In closing, please let us know if you have any questions or need additional information. We greatly appreciate your partnership, and will do whatever we can to help during these uncertain times.
